Getting people living with NCDs (PLWNCDs) involved in advocacy is a global challenge that just got a whole lot easier. Your support and views can help to drive change for better NCDs prevention and care. As PLWNCDs, we are powerful agents of change and our successful participation stands to make the global and national NCDs responses more urgent, more accountable, more robust and effective.
The Our Views, Our Views initiative of the NCD Alliance is a global effort to meaningfully involve PLWNCDs in the NCD response. What is “meaningful involvement”? Good question. That’s why your input is needed. Engage and help shape the global NCDs response.
This project has grown legs and now you also get involved in a safe online space and share your knowledge and views in a Community of Practice (CoP) for the Meaningful involvement of PLWNCDs . The aims of this CoP are:
- To develop a shared understanding of the need for and the benefit of meaningful involvement of PLWNCDs as a key element the NCD response;
- To increase knowledge on how to promote meaningful involvement;
- To stimulate advocacy efforts calling for increased meaningful involvement;
- To develop a public repository of good practices and a global standard on the meaningful involvement.
- To provide a safe space using password protection
Who can join this CoP? PLWNCDs , civil society organisations, academia, government representatives and other stakeholders with an interest in this topic. Apply here to join the CoP.
Activities of the CoP in 2018: 3 moderated, time bound virtual discussions engaging a wide range of stakeholders, each preceded by a scene-setting webinar.
First webinar: June 27 2018 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. British Standard Time
First moderated virtual discussion: 28 June to the 3 July. You need to be a CoP member to participate.
These are strategically timed to take place just prior to the UN Interactive Hearing on the 5 July in New York. It will focus on the UN High Level Meeting on NCDs and advocacy to promote meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs, as well as discuss what is meant by “meaningful involvement.”
Members of CoP are invited to attend the webinars and participate actively in the stimulating virtual discussions! Discussions from CoP will be synthesized and result concretely in a public repository of good practices and a global standard on the meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs.
NCD alliances and civil society organisation active at the regional and national levels are called to support the CoP and engage in concrete discussions on how meaningful involvement of PLWNCDs can be achieved, identify good practices from across the world and mobilise around advocacy opportunities.
This initiative is in recognition that there is a need for involvement of a diverse range of stakeholder in the prevention and control of NCDs, the WHO Global Coordinating Mechanism on NCDs (WHO-GCM/NCDs) is hosting Communities of Practice (CoPs) The CoPs safe spaces designed for individuals with expertise and interest in various thematic areas of NCDs to exchange knowledge, advance discussions and identify gaps in a multi-stakeholder network.
