It is important that civil society makes inputs if you want to ensure the quality of NCDs care in NHI or universal health coverage (UHC) and beyond.
Commentary may have already closed, but we need more time to scrutinize. Transparent and inclusive policy development is the key to good governance.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Please make comment by using the “review” function on the Word document.

COVID-19 & NCDs evidence guidance report July 2020

COVID-19 & NCDs evidence guidance report July 2020

Independent prognostic risk factors for severe COVID-19 & death are:
▲ Age 60 years and older ▲ males ▲CVD ▲hypertension
▲cerebrovascular disease ▲ diabetes

South African policy and practice must consider the report’s findings due to the context in which:
■ There are high rates of undiagnosed cases and poor levels of control for these NCDs especially diabetes and hypertension in South Africa;
■ The draft National NCDs Strategic Plan for 2020-2025 currently under consideration;
■ The need for coherence with current guidelines for the management of
these NCDs, many of which require review, and WHO guidance to deliver
evidence-based PHC for people with NCDs; and
■ The overarching National Department of Health plan to address the
pandemic.
