Shavathon 2018 – CANSA
Show YOU Care for cancer Survivors at #CANSAShavathon
With Shavathon events taking place nationally at selected malls, next weekend, on Saturday, 24th February, and in some instances on Sunday, 25th February 2018, the excitement is building and the news is being shared far and wide.
CANSA is thankful to the SABC Foundation and SABC 3for broadcasting our Shavathon TV and Radio ads, and also to all regional media partners for their support. We’d also like to say a special thank you to popular TV & Radio Presenter, Rozanne McKenzie, for doing the voice overs for the SABC Radio Ads. Says Rozanne, “I really do love being a part of something that makes a difference to so many people!”
We are also grateful to long term sponsors, Wahl who provide the shavers and also to Aerosol for their high quality colour sprays.

Shavathon’s partner Globeflight, delivers Shavathon stock and supplies to our hosts’ doorsteps and we could not do without their efficient support. Globeflight recently invited the Lions’ Rugby team, who they sponsor, to participate in raising awareness regarding Shavathon. Many of the Lions’ team members have family or loved ones who are affected by cancer, or have been lost to cancer. An interview with Globeflight staff and the Lions was broadcast on the Expresso Show on Monday, 19th Feb.

Online Fundraising Champions Rocking It
Our online fundraising champions have been working very hard to promote their fundraising pages, and have collectively raised a whopping R 39 497 thus far – Nerissa Naidoo has set the bar by raising R18 615 and is still going strong. Well done Nerissa!
Nerissa reveals why she is raising funds online for Shavathon:
“Six years ago, I lost a beautiful friend, someone I treated & loved as my very own sister. A light- hearted soul, full of joy and positive energy. We laughed ourselves silly during the precious time we spent together, taking life day by day. Even though there were many moments of pain & heartache, wonderful memories were created… and a PROMISE made! She said: ‘When I’m better, we will shave off our hair together.’ And I said: ‘Of course we will!’ It didn’t go according to plan, because my soldier is no longer with us, but the time has come for me to fulfil my PROMISE. Let’s do it for our soldiers who bravely face their challenges with smiles on their faces.”
Luc Janssens has raised a lot of interest and money thus far – R13 456, because the people supporting him, want CHANGE! Says Luc, “As a lot of you know, I have been growing my hair for quite some time (more than 2 years) and I was thinking that it’s time for a change. So if any of you guys want to get the shock of your lives and see me with no hair, PLEASE donate.” Luc, we think you are fantastic for making your change in hairstyle count for those affected by cancer – you are AWESOME!
We salute these champions and urge you to consider raising funds online yourself – make your action at Shavathon 2018 count more than R50, by challenging your loved ones to support your participation, whether you are spraying, shaving or donating your hair, they can show their support by making an online donation to your fundraising page.
Top fundraisers will receive fantastic prizes. Competition closes on 31 March 2018, midnight. Any funds coming in after this deadline, will not count towards deciding the winner(s) of the competition.
Be inspired by Fabian Louw, last year’s winner, and our other 2017 Shavathon Online Fundraising Champions and set up your online fundraiser today!
We can’t wait to be with you at #CANSAShavathon2018 –
